“Clash of the Titans” breaks records on Easter

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

“Clash of the Titans” has named itself the new ruler at North American Box Office chart. Opened wide in U.S. theaters on April 2, the epic movie which is also available in 3-D version has raked in $61.2 million over the weekend.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the amount collected by the Sam Worthington-starring film represents a new Easter weekend record. The previous record was held by 2006 “Scary Movie 4″ with $40.2 million.

Unfortunately, the good Box Office result is not in line with the film’s review. Cinemascore only gives “Clash of the Titans” a weak B score, which will likely show its effect on the movie’s lower position at the chart last week.

In contrary, “Why Did I Get Married Too?” which also made its debut last Friday generates an A score from Cinemascore. This could help the Tyler Perry’s drama comedy, which currently sits on runner-up spot with $29.3 million, to get a better result next week.

On the third position there is former champion “How to Train Your Dragon” which drops 33.7% on ticket sales. The DreamWorks 3-D animation only pulls in $29 million on its second weekend, making a total $92.1 million domestic revenue.

Meanwhile, another newcomer “The Last Song” manages to enter the chart on the fourth place. The Miley Cyrus-starring flick earns $16 million. It is then followed by “Alice in Wonderland”, which drops 3 spots from last week position with an additional $8.2 million.
