Alice in Wonderland raked in another $34.5 million in its three weekend, fetching nearly $566 million in worldwide tickets sales in total. The Jennifer Aniston-Gerard Butler flick, The Bounty Hunter, opened in third place.

Alice In Wonderland Opens With Whopping $116 Million

Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” revamp drew in huge crowds over the weekend, enough to put them past the $100 million mark in its opening weekend.

The 2010 “Alice In Wonderland” landed atop the weekend box office, raking in $116.3 million, a record for a 3D film, said the Associated Press. The film’s debut gave the flick an even bigger opening than “Avatar.”

It also marked the biggest opening weekend for a non-sequel.

“This is just one of those cultural phenomenons that has caught everybody’s interest,” Chuck Viane, Disney’s president of distribution, told the AP. “They don’t come like this very often.”
