Mardi Gras

Today is one of the biggest party days of the year, Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday". If you can't make it down to New Orleans for all of the action, you can still have some fun. I've put together some ways you can celebrate right at home.

Masks

Mardi Gras Mask

At Mardi Gras, people celebrate by dressing up and wearing masks. They usually sport the holiday's traditional colors - purple, green and gold.

Beads

The beads are also all a part of the fun. What's not a part of the tradition is showing some skin to get them.

Food

Crayfish Gumbo

New Orleans is known for its Cajun and Creole food. So for Mardi Gras, pig out on the classics like some gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. I'm workin up an appetite just talking about it!

King Cake

King cake

You can't do Mardi Gras without the king cake. There's a tiny plastic baby hidden in the cake. Tradition goes, whoever gets the piece with the baby inside has to host the next king cake party.
