I was just reading the HALO boards…. dromedary was feeling skeptical about the celebrities on the show. He says “it’s still just to up their publicity and celebrity status” and “the commercials are basically trying to be like ‘we’re not gonna shine the spotlight on celebrities now’ but they’re shining them on them more than ever. they don’t need celebrities to give awards.”
I want to talk about this for a sec…
First of all. I like a healthy dose of skepticism ’cause we all know there’s a lot of malarkey out there. So no disrespect, dromedary.
BUT. I gotta debate you on that “this is just to up their celebrity status” part. Justin Timberlake, Hayden Panettiere, Alicia Keys and LeBron James don’t need the HALO Awards to up their celebrity statuses. They statuses is UP. Already. When I invited those guys to be a part of this show, they were all doing it for the LOVE. This isn’t the kind of thing your money team is like “ooooh, do it, do it!” They’re like “Now how we gonna find the time for that?”
But they MADE the time, because it mattered to them. I think when you see the show and you’re bawlin’ in your Puffs, you’ll get what I’m sayin’.
And yeah, we’re shining the light on the star power in the commercials because we want people to watch! We want the world to know how AMAZING Bryan and Leah and Darrius and Megan are! We want to shout it from the mountaintops, and you know… when Justin Timberlake shouts something from the mountaintops, a couple more people are gonna cock their ears at that mountain than if Joe Schmo does. That’s life in 2009.
Celebrities have lights shone on them all the time… a lot of times we can’t even stop it if we want to. The Law of Fame. If we can use that Law of Fame to bring something important into that light… then I think that’s a blessed thing.
We good?
I CAN’T WAIT for Friday. Stock up on them Puffs! Get the kind with the aloe!
