NEW YORK — Rihanna (ree-AH’-nah) is exposing her fans to more than her music with her new single, “Russian Roulette.”
The singer is featured nearly topless on artwork for the song, covered only by what looks to be barbed wire.
The photo fits the apparent theme for her new album, “Rated R,” which is due out Nov. 23. It will be her first CD since 2007′s “Good Girl Gone Bad,” which went multiplatinum. It will also be her first solo single since she was attacked by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
“Russian Roulette” will debut Tuesday on Rihanna’s Web site.

Wow is this a come back attempt or a suicide dam!!!!! fail hated it an what's up with the gun shot at the end I know they both had a rough time in the media during the february fiasco but gosh couldn't she come with something upbeat, maybe it's because I never was a Rihanna fan sorry
yo you aways have the dopes tracks first
Everyone is entitled to their opinions about songs, but as a fellow musician, I look at this as a powerful song. From the first note of the beat to the last word from her voice, I had goosebumps. I'm digging this a lot! I felt that way too, Rihanna. But trust, you will see the sunrise, but don't just observe it, be a part of it. I hope in the video she turns the gun away at the last millisecond before pulling the trigger, then just watches the smoke fill the air. I think she could have NAILED IT if she took a deep breath a bit after the gunshot, but either way, this song is HOT! Forget about what homeboy is talking about.
When it comes to Rihanna, one of the country’s most popular singers who is currently battling to escape from under the umbrella of personal scrutiny, it could have easily been predicted by all that for her first single on the upcoming album, “Rated-R,” would have taken a more pleasant and uncontroversial route. Oddly enough, the Barbados beauty has revealed to fans and critiques alike that she is nothing close to predictable. With the single “Russian Roulette,” a ballad of smooth notes that bleed tragic suspense, Rihanna throws herself and now her career into the red light. Her voice, as lovely as it is, finds itself strung to misery, which once again forces her audience to see her as the loyal victim. With lines like, “I’m terrified but I’m not leaving. I know that I must pass this test. So just pull the trigger,” Rihanna may have nearly shot her image into the mud. Instead of singing herself the survivor, Rihanna has rather reminded us that she’s just one shot from tragedy.

In the end, aren't we all just one shot from tragedy? I don't believe her image is in the mud at all.. Before you can become this “survivor” that it would be so wonderful to see her become, you must first be put through a series of events that collaborate in an affect to give you something to survive — and be proud of doing so. You can only truly become what you are meant to be after you've been put to the test, face your fears, and pass the said test, so that you can ultimately awaken into what you are destined to become. I feel she is well on her way to greatness, but as with the rest of us, she's hitting her stumbling blocks in the road. Overall, this song is great! Not only because it sounds and feels like true music, but because it's no fairy-tale. I don't know about you or anyone else, but I, personally, appreciate her being real with her emotions.

@ Jayell_infamous: Your statement, “You can only truly become what you are meant to be after you've been put to the test, face your fears, and pass the said test, so that you can ultimately awaken into what you are destined to become,” was well received and agreed with. However, I sense through your choice of words that somehow you got the impression that I believe that Rihanna is anything other than a survivor. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I doubt that any person that publically goes through such trials and shame as Rihanna has, and chooses to continue to thrive instead of burying his/her head under the rocks, is not anything less than a survivor. What was stated in my previous comment was that Rihanna’s new song didn’t sing survivor. Instead it sings of a loyal victim, which if you actually examine the lyrics of “Russian Roulette” breathes just that.
On another note, as long as Rihanna has loyal fans that trump the critics, her image may never dig its own grave. For this, I pray that her fans increase. Despite the fact that I believe this first single should have never been her pathway back into the limelight, I sincerely believe that Ms. Rihanna’s talent soars among the clouds.
